News - Latest

The Australian Democrats have chosen Ronaldo Villaver as the official party candidate for Greenway in the upcoming August 2010 Federal Elections.

Philippine-born Villaver shares the same core values and convictions as the Australian Democratic Party and believes the constituents of Greenway deserve better than the political wrangling currently happening between the major parties.  “We need common sense, better laws, accountability and transparency,” said Villaver.

A migrant and a family man himself, Villaver believes in a fairer Australia regardless of ethnicity, creed or religion. “We need to have a safer, brighter future and immediate action is needed for better health and education,” said Villaver.

Villaver will be standing for the Federal seat of Greenway which covers most of the Blacktown Council area and including parts of Holroyd and Parramatta Council areas. Suburbs included are: Acacia Gardens,  Girraween, Glenwood, Kellyville Ridge, Kings Langley , Kings Park, Lalor Park, Parklea, Seven Hills, Stanhope Gardens, The Ponds, Toongabbie and parts of Blacktown, Pendle Hill, Prospect, Quakers Hill, Riverstone, Rouse Hill, Schofields and Vineyard.

Ronaldo Villaver has entrenched himself in various community projects and was quick to respond to calamities and tragedies such as Victorian Bushfire and the Philippine floods.  He served as the president of the Philippine Community Council of NSW (PCC_NSW) in 2009, the peak organisation of the Filipino community and is currently the Vice Chairperson of the Ethnic Community Council of New South Wales Inc. (ECC NSW Inc.) He has also served as a member of management committees of two Parramatta community centres.

With an Agriculturel degree from the Philippines, Villaver is an advocate of a greener environment and has consistently been a volunteer during the annual Clean Up Australia Day and National Tree Day in various local councils in Western Sydney.

He also holds a master’s degree from Massey University, Palmerston North, New Zealand and pursued his PhD on Technology Management in the Philippines. Prior to migrating to Australia, he worked with Philippine government agencies such as the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and at the National Food Authority (NFA).

Villaver says: “I’m excited and honoured to have been selected by the Australian Democrats in this coming election. Voters in Western Sydney now have a choice. I am appealing for community support especially for volunteers.  We need to get the Democrats back into parliament so that the basic core values are returned to the people.”  “We deserve better because our children deserve better,” he adds.
